Assistant Head of Department Mathematics (2MU + 1MMA)
Permanent, Full-Time | Starting Term 3, 2025


Freyberg High School is seeking a passionate and dynamic educator to join our Mathematics department as Assistant Head of Department. As Assistant HOD Mathematics, you will support the Head of Faculty in leading a collaborative and forward-thinking department. You will bring a deep understanding of Junior Mathematics and a passion for raising achievement through effective teaching and robust curriculum design.


We are looking for someone who demonstrates:
•    A strong understanding of Junior Mathematics and how to engage students at all levels.
•    Proven skills in designing schemes of work and assessment tasks, and the ability to coach and support other teachers in doing the same.
•    Outstanding communication skills with staff, students, and whānau, helping to foster a supportive and inclusive environment.
•    A commitment to exemplary classroom practice and a reputation for building strong, respectful relationships with both students and colleagues.


Key Responsibilities would be:
•    Lead initiatives around Numeracy, including preparation and support for the Numeracy Common Assessment Activities (CAA).
•    Collaborate closely with the HOD to mentor and support staff development within the department.
•    Develop and maintain effective, student-centred schemes of work that meet diverse learning needs.

HOD Food and Nutrition (1MU + 1MMA)
Freyberg High School | Permanent, Full-Time | Starting as soon as possible.

​​​​​​​We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated teacher to join our Vocational Pathways Faculty and teach Food and Nutrition and Hospitality across a range of year levels.

This leadership position would suit an experienced teacher with proven organisational, curriculum development, and team leadership skills.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning, preparing, and delivering engaging and effective Food and Nutrition and Hospitality lessons.
  • Assessing and reporting student progress in line with school policies.
  • Contributing to the development and review of curriculum and resources.
  • Maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
  • For the Head of Department role: Leading and managing the Food and Nutrition / Hospitality department, curriculum oversight, and staff support.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a qualified and registered teacher with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • Has a strong knowledge of Food and Nutrition and Hospitality principles and practices.
  • Demonstrates excellent classroom management and communication skills.
  • Is passionate about student achievement and well-being.
  • Is a collaborative team player.
  • For the Head of Department role: Has leadership experience and the ability to inspire and motivate others.
